So What's the Deal With JAMESTOWNY, JAMESTOWNY?
Glad you asked!
Hello.
You may have noticed January came and went with no JAMESTOWNY stories.
Though I planned to launch the site last month, a December incident involving broken bones and torn ligaments put me out of commission for a few weeks.
While the recovery process is ongoing, it is far enough along that I intend to start publishing in March.
Paid subscribers: Whether you’ve already paid or are planning to upgrade, the clock on your subscription won’t start until the first proper JAMESTOWNY post goes live.
To make up, in part, for the late launch, the offer to receive a $10 ShopLocalCHQ Gift Card with a paid annual JAMESTOWNY subscription through March 20 (the first day of spring) is now extended through June 21, the first day of summer.
A paid annual or monthly subscription unlocks access to all news stories, features and other content, as well as commenting privileges and a JAMESTOWNY sticker, designed and produced in Jamestown (like all JNY shwag), mailed to you.
Here are some of the JAMESTOWNY stories presently on deck:
Governor Kathy Hochul has directed state officials to bring a new nuclear power plant online to help address New York’s energy needs. Local leaders are lobbying Hochul to site the plant in Dunkirk. Though the proposal has bipartisan support, not everyone is on board. JAMESTOWNY will explore the potential upsides, and risks, of bringing what the governor calls “safe and reliable advanced nuclear energy” to Chautauqua County.
Thousands of area residents could soon lose their health insurance due to federal budget cuts imposed by Congress at the behest of the Trump administration. JAMESTOWNY will talk to patients, providers and politicians about the healthcare crisis, how it came to be, and what’s next.
After a spate of pedestrian and cyclist deaths, including several child victims, Jamestown officials are working on a street safety plan. JAMESTOWNY will have in-depth coverage, including crash analyses and a detailed look at how the Jamestown plan compares to the latest best practices in traffic engineering and traffic safety from the U.S. and around the world.
Governor Hochul and Albany lawmakers are working on legislation to change how New York law enforcement agencies interact with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the lawless and lethal federal agency terrorizing immigrants and anyone else, American citizens included, who ICE perceives as in the way. JAMESTOWNY will speak with officials, social workers, clergy and everyday citizens affected by ICE actions in Chautauqua County and Western New York.
I’m well into researching some of these stories and itching to get started on the rest. In the interim, follow JAMESTOWNY on Instagram and Facebook for news shorts and other content, including daily Jamestown beauty shots.
If you were forwarded this post and are wondering who, what and why JAMESTOWNY is, the JAMESTOWNY origin story is here.
Questions? Hit me up over email and I’ll get back to you.
Until next time.
